Just yesterday, Google started rolling out its controversial AI Overviews feature for search results in more countries. Following the expansion, Google has also started testing AI Overviews to appear for users who are not signed in to their accounts. The company originally announced the artificial intelligence-powered search results feature back in May this year.
AI Overviews now show for users who are not signed in to their Google accounts
A few hours ago, a user on Linkedin posted a screenshot on the platform. It shows that Google has started showing AI Overviews in search results of users who are not signed in to their accounts. Soon after, the search titan confirmed the change in the search results to Search Engine Roundtable. The company said that it is showing AI Overviews to the signed-out users in the US.
CNET’s Jon Henshaw posted on LinkedIn, “So, that whole thing about how AI Overviews do not appear in Incognito results. Well…” He also shared a screenshot of Google showing AI Overviews in Incognito mode. One thing we know for sure is Google doesn’t show the AI Overviews in Search Labs. At least without users opting in for it and signing in to their account.
As of now, the AI Overviews are showing up for the signed-out users in the United States. However, the company may soon roll it out to more countries in the coming weeks. It’s worth mentioning that many users don’t see AI Overviews when searching logged in to their Google Workspace account. However, Search Engine Land reports that Workspace accounts can see AI Overviews as well.
Google’s AI Overviews are now expanding to six more countries
Google has also started rolling out AI Overviews in search results in more countries across the globe. The controversial feature is now available in regions including Japan, the UK, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and Brazil. Alongside the expansion, the company is also changing how it displays links to the publishers.
The new AI Overviews UI will have the like embedded into the results themselves. In addition, Google will let you store the queries you searched for in the coming days.
