Android 15-based ColorOS 15 closed beta might start this month

AH OnePlus 12R Review (10)

Android 15 is still in beta, so not even the latest Pixel 9 series runs it out of the box. Meanwhile, multiple brands have been working on the next big update for their custom skins, like Samsung with One UI 7. Now, a new report claims that Oppo and OnePlus will begin secret screenings of ColorOS 15 (based on Android 15) on some flagship phones this month.

ColorOS 15 secret screenings to start soon on OnePlus 12 and OPPO Find X7 series

Tipster Digital Chat Station said on Weibo that devices like the OnePlus 12 and OPPO Find X7 series will get access to the ColorOS 15 closed beta in late August. The source claims that there are “very few spots” available for those interested in signing up. Of course, this date corresponds to devices in China, where Oppo and OnePlus phones share the same ROM. The closed beta is an early stage in development where the OS is not yet fit for use on your daily driver.

The post also reveals that the first ColorOS 15 public beta will arrive in late 2024. The public beta will allow many more users to test the new features on a slightly more stable ROM. As for Android 15 stable, the first build could arrive in September in the form of a Feature Drop update for eligible Pixel devices. After that, all other Android brands will have to offer their own rollout schedule.

Some expected new features

It is difficult to give an exact date for the rollout of the first ColorOS 15 stable update. Each manufacturer handles their timing differently, and it is not known how long the public beta stage will last. However, the new firmware is expected to include several new features and tweaks. These include a redesigned control center and floating windows UI along with more lock screen customization. There would even be options to tweak the GPU frequency, like on desktop PCs.

Lastly, it is said that ColorOS 15 will bring at least a couple of features heavily inspired by iOS. These would be adaptations of Apple’s AirDrop and Dynamic Island. Realme, another BBK company, has already launched phones with its own “Dynamic Island.”
