Chrome browser will soon let you access your saved passwords, bookmarks, and more across devices with a new simplified signing-in process. The Chrome Sync feature is being replaced on Android devices with a much simpler Google account sign-in. Apart from Android phones and tablets, Google is going for the new sign-in feature on desktop devices as well. Notably, the new change lets you skip the extra step of toggling on Chrome Sync.

The search titan originally simplified setting up Chrome on iOS by replacing Chrome Sync with a simpler Google account sign-in last November. The new functionality was released with the Chrome app’s version 118 for iOS devices.

Chrome for Android and desktop will soon let you sign in using your Google account

Google announced that it is simplifying the process to sign in the Chrome browser on Android and desktop devices with Google accounts. Historically, enabling “Chrome Sync” provided you access to bookmarks, passwords, history, tabs, and more across your devices. However, Google is eliminating the extra Chrome Sync process and is replacing it with an effortless Google Account sign-in.

Now, all you will have to do is sign into your Google Account to access Chrome data across devices. This is usually how all other first-party applications work. The company says that the change will give users the option to sign in to Chrome for a “customized browsing experience”.

The new feature will let you continue planning trips, searching, and more across your devices

It will allow you to sign in and start planning a trip on your smartphone. Then seamlessly finish it up on your desktop devices, for example. You can also “send tabs between your devices, find bookmarks, and use auto-generated passwords with ease”, Google said in a blog post.

Furthermore, the company mentioned that you can “Sync your tabs and history” to your Google Account by enabling a separate opt-in setting. As always, you will still be able to continue to use Chrome for Android and desktop without signing into your Google Account. As of now, there’s no tentative release date for the new sign-in feature. The company said, “Stay tuned for updates on this change”.
