Diablo Immortal is getting a World of Warcraft collaboration

Diablo Immortal World of Warcraft Collaboration

Diablo Immortal appears to be getting its first proper collaboration with another huge franchise, with Blizzard having announced today that there will be a World of Warcraft collaboration event happening next month. While the two games couldn’t be more different in their general themes, there are parts of World of Warcraft that fit quite nicely with the overall tone of Diablo Immortal and the Diablo universe. Such as the presence of the undead.

For this collaboration, players across Sanctuary will have to brave the inside of frozen portals that have popped up across the map. Once tracked down, players will be able to enter these portals and take on special enemies. The ‘Shadow of the Frozen Throne’ event will be live starting on July 4 at 3 a.m. server time and it will last until July 26 at 3 a.m. server time. So you’ll have nearly a month to participate in the event and complete it for associated rewards.

Players will also be able to call on special powers while in these portals to help them in their quest to defend sanctuary.

Diablo Immortal players can earn World of Warcraft-themed items

There are a few different things that you can acquire by completing this event. The one that’s likely going to be the most sought-after is the weapon cosmetic. If you complete the event while active, you can earn a weapon cosmetic that makes your weapon look like Frostmourne. Now, Frostmourne is a sword so it’s not entirely clear if all classes will be able to apply the cosmetic. It’s reasonable to assume, however, that while all players can earn it, it may have to be used by classes who can wield weapons with a similar attack animation.

For example, Monk players use fist weapons and baton-style weapons, and it’s unclear how you would apply the look of Frostmourne to those. That being said, it’s also possible that each class will have its own Frostmoure-style cosmetic. We’ll just have to wait and see. Blizzard does confirm at least that the Crusader class will be able to use it. It also looks like the cosmetic applies to the shield to give it a matching design.

In addition to the Frostmourne cosmetic, players can also earn the Icecrown frame simply by logging in. Lastly, during the period of the event, any real money purchase made in-game or through battlenet will earn players the Icecrown Pathway Portal. Players can claim these starting on July 11. Be aware though that the first player you login to the game with will be able to claim the portal. So make sure to jump in with your main.

Utilize the new ‘Chill of the Frozen Throne’ power

As mentioned this event will grace Diablo Immortal players with a new power. It’s called Chill of the Frozen Throne and you will be able to use it inside these new frozen portals that are popping up. With this power available, you can kill 5 enemies to increase damage by 10% for 10 seconds. You will also be able to randomly raise an undead warrior to fight alongside you. Up to 5 enemies can be raised in this fashion. However, you can’t control when you raise them like a Necromancer does its minions.
