Discord is getting into the holiday spirit by adding in a new feature called avatar decorations, and it’s only here for a limited time. Now unless you’re an Ebeneezer Scrooge or a real-life Grinch (or of course someone who doesn’t celebrate, which is totally fine), these things are fun and you should check them out.
They’re a nice little festive way to add some cheer to your Discord profile. And the best part is that everyone on your friends list, and anybody you interact with in any channel on any server, will be able to see these decorations.
The downside, because there’s always a downside, is that you need to be a Discord Nitro subscriber to gain access to these. Nitro costs $9.99 a month, and not everyone is going to see the benefit in paying for that subscription just to get some cheery avatar decorations to celebrate the holidays.
There are other cool things about Nitro though. So definitely consider getting it for those other benefits. And simply think of the avatar decorations as an extra present under the tree.
Discord holiday avatar decorations will be available starting today
Discord hasn’t given an exact timing on the arrival of this new feature, but it will be sometime today. At the moment though it doesn’t look like the feature has gone live. After checking several times, the option to add one of these decorations is nowhere to be seen.
That said, here’s how you add one when the capability does pop up. First, you’ll want to open up the Discord app on a PC (the Android and iOS apps won’t work for this). Then, go to the user settings menu and click on profiles. Inside profiles you should see an option to “change decoration.”
You’ll have 15 different decorations to choose from that when applied, will wrap your avatar in everything from a cozy blanket to an open gift box. These are only sticking around until January 6, so take advantage of them while you can.
