Final Fantasy XVI comes to PC on September 17

Final Fantasy XVI PC

Timed PS5 exclusive Final Fantasy XVI will finally launch on PC more than a year after its initial release on PlayStation. Square Enix officially announced the PC release on its Final Fantasy XVI account on X.

Helmed by Naoki Yoshida and the Creative Studio 3 team, Final Fantasy XVI is a bit of a departure from the rest of the mainline Final Fantasy series. While there have been games in the series with action-RPG combat before, Final Fantasy XVI took the series in more of a dark direction with its themes. It’s also a game that Final Fantasy XIV fans can appreciate given the MMO’s influences on certain design elements of the UI and other features. That’s not too surprising given Yoshida and CS3 also make Final Fantasy XIV.

The game will launch on September 17 for PC players with availability hitting both Steam and the Epic Games Store. Square Enix doesn’t list any PC-specific features as we saw with games like Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn, and others that made the jump from PlayStation to PC. However, it’s bound to look better on PC due to the potential performance power of PC.

Final Fantasy XVI will launch on PC in two versions

If you’re thinking about picking this game up, there are two versions you can buy. First, there’s the standard version which is $50. This is just the base game and it’s a great time in its own right. It’s also available in the Complete Edition though. This will cost you $70 and it’s the version you probably want to go for. The Complete Edition includes both of the game’s DLCs, Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide. As of yet, there is no option to buy the DLC separately. So if you want to play them, you’ll need the Complete Edition.

Try out the demo starting today

Those who aren’t sure if they want to commit to this purchase can try the game out for free via the demo. Even better is that the demo is available starting today. Like the full game, you can grab the demo on both Steam and the Epic Games Store.

If you like RPGs with action combat, definitely give the demo a try. If you enjoy the demo, then you can move on to buying the full game. For the cost of the Complete Edition, you’re getting a lot of value too. The base game takes about 37-40 hours to beat if you focus mostly on the main objectives. However, that time bumps up to 80 or more if you want to see and complete everything. This is also just the base game. Tossing in the two DLCs pushes the play time up by another 13 hours if you 100% both DLCs. So yeah, plenty of playtime.
