Google Lens now getting the “Search with video” feature widely

Google Lens is a powerful tool that lets you search and get answers from images you take with your phone’s camera. The company has been working hard to improve its reliability and capability. Now, Google Lens is getting a “Search with video” option to offer even more search possibilities.

Until now, Google Lens visual capabilities worked solely with images. You could upload pictures from your gallery or use your device’s camera to do contextual searches. However, sometimes an image alone won’t be enough to describe what you want, so you’ll need to add context.

Google Lens “Search with video” feature rolling out for everyone

Google Lens’ new “Search with video” feature allows your visual input to be more comprehensive. This will be especially useful in cases where you need to cover all angles of something in particular to get reliable search results. After all, Lens’ visual-based capabilities only support one file at a time. The Mountain View giant announced the new feature in May during the latest Google I/O event. To use it, you just have to hold down the big “magnifying glass” button instead of tapping it once.

Android expert Mishaal Rahman spotted the feature in the stable version of Google Lens and did some testing. The results showed that the more angles you include in your video, the more accurate your results will be. For instance, Lens may misidentify items that bear significant similarities, such as different generations of iPhones or smartwatch models. To fix that, just include more angles in your video. If more angles still aren’t enough, you still have the option to add additional context (via text or voice). Basically, Google wants to give you all the tools you need to get the most accurate search results.

Rahman claims that Google’s AI Overviews power Lens video-based results. So, they’ll work in regions where the AI Overviews feature is available. If you haven’t received the Lens’ video search yet, you’ll just have to wait a few days. However, you can try downloading the latest Google Lens version from trusted repositories like APK Mirror.
