Google Photos now lets you block a person’s face from memories

Google Photos AM AH

Google is always ahead when it comes to making new changes in its products and services. Earlier in May, there were some reports about Google testing a new setting to show less or hide faces from Google Photos’ memories. Now, it looks like the “Show less” feature has accompanied a new “Block face” option within the Google Photos app.

Google Photos’ latest update allows you to block a person’s face from your memories

The “Block face” feature is rolling out to users globally as part of the latest Google Photos app update. Now, you must be wondering what exactly the new option does, and how it is handy. Well, the name of the new feature speaks for itself. According to a Google support page, if you don’t want to see a specific person feature in your memories, there are two options to deal with it. You can use the “Show less” or “Block face” option to partially or entirely hide a person’s face from your memories.

Worth noting that if you opt for the “Block face” option, the person won’t appear in your memories. That’s not all, if the person features in any of the group photos, you won’t see them either. On the other hand, if you choose the “Show less” option, you won’t see specific memories featuring them. However, the person might still appear in group photos within your Google Photos memories.

Here’s how to use the new feature

To see less of a person’s face or entirely block them from your memories, first go to the Google Photos app. Then, tap your profile photo or your initials at the top right. Next, tap on the “Photos settings.” Now, tap “Preferences” and select “Memories.” On, the memories page, you will see two options “Hide people & pets” and “Hide dates.” Here, you should select the first option i.e. Hide people & pets.

On the following screen, tap the “Select faces” under the “Show less” option and the app will show you a bunch of faces it recognized from your memories. You can simply choose the faces you want to see less in your memories and tap “Done.” Below is the sequence of steps you want to follow once you reach the settings page of the Google Photos app.

But, if you want to block them entirely from your memories, choose “Select faces” lying under the “Blocked” option. Then, follow the similar instructions as mentioned earlier. Once you add the person’s face under any of these options, the Google Photos memories will show less or no face at all, based on what option you opted for.

There’s an option to hide dates as well

Although this feature within Google Photos works well in block faces, Google says “it isn’t perfect.” So, to be on the safer side you can also choose to hide a specific date on which the photos were captured featuring the person you want to see less or hide entirely.

To do so, follow the instructions from the fourth paragraph above until you reach the “Memories” page. Then, you can select the “Hide dates” option. On the next screen, you’ll be prompted to select dates, and tap “Hide.” After you choose the dates, the app won’t show the pictures taken on that date. This eventually ends up hiding the person from your memories.
