It won’t be wrong to say that the Google Pixel 9 series is all about AI, well most of it is. There were a bunch of AI announcements at the big Pixel 9 event earlier this month with the company talking about the new capabilities of Gemini. Google also announced the new Pixel Studio app which converts text prompts to generated images using Artificial Intelligence. While the Pixel Studio is a fun tool to use, it has some problems according to some early reports.
Remember Gemini’s worrying AI-image generation problem? Google’s new Pixel Studio app is no less
If you don’t know it yet, like many AI features, the Pixel 9 series also has the Pixel Studio app. The app works pretty straight-forward. As with similar other tools, you can input the text prompts to generate AI-images of your liking. Yes, it works on a similar concept to the Gemini image generation tool. Unfortunately, the early testers of the Pixel Studio app are concerned as it has problems.
Firstly, there are some limitations in the Pixel Studio app to prevent problems of worrying or jarring images. That’s good and is the same for most of the AI-image creator apps, nothing new here. When folks over at Digital Trends first used the app, it refused to generate images of people. However, the app can easily bypass the set limits to create some worrying images.
There’s always a problem with seeing an unintended disturbing image with AI-image generation tools, it seems to be the case with the new Pixel Studio app too. According to Digital Trends and confirmed by 9to5Google, the Pixel Studio could generate images of cartoon characters as a German soldier from WWII with a Nazi symbol on the uniform. That’s just one example of it. The Pixel Studio app also reportedly generated a character shooting in a school with dead children around it.
There needs to be something done about all this
You must be wondering why input such prompts, right? That’s what Google implies in a statement given to 9to5Google. But, the fact is Google’s AI model shouldn’t be able to generate such images with set limitations in the first place.
As it seems, the prompts used to generate the described image above are reportedly blocked as we write, at least on the 9to5Google’s Pixel 9 Pro XL unit. So, it seems Google is already working on this, but this problem with the Pixel Studio app is still there.
It is unsure why Google chose to bring the Pixel Studio app with dedicated AI-image generation capabilities. That too, after having encountered a similar problem with Gemini’s image generation capability about which there’s no update so far. It might be the reason why Google hasn’t resumed the Gemini’s image-generating capability after temporarily halting it early this year. Time will tell if Google makes any significant improvement about this problem.
