Google’s Pixel Watch 3 still isn’t Repairable

When you’re buying a device, especially a device that’s as pricey as the Pixel Watch 3, you’ll want to make sure that it stays functional for years to come. Not everyone upgrades every year. Well, if you happen to wreck your Pixel Watch 3, you won’t be able to repair it or have it repaired. Your only option is to get a brand-new one.

Don’t let that scare you away from picking up the device. The Pixel Watch 3 brings several hardware improvements over the last generation. Google didn’t innovate on the design, but that’s no big issue. If you want to learn more about this device, you can check out our rundown of Everything You Need To Know About The Pixel Watch 3.

You won’t be able to repair the Pixel Watch 3

You’d think that Google would have improved the repairability of its smartwatch by the third iteration. However, that’s not the case. For the third year, Google does not offer a repair option for its watch. If something happens to the phone, the only option you have is to get a new one, which can often be more of a problem. This means that you’ll need to set up a new watch from scratch.

Sure, if you completely destroy your watch, then you would need to get a new one regardless. However, if something simple happens like a cracked screen, you would still have to get a new one. This also means that you would need to have an insurance plan if you want to have a replacement provided by the company. This plan costs $4/month or $89 for two years. With this plan, Google will replace your watch even when outside of the warranty.

On top of that, you will need to pay a $49 service fee if the company does decide to replace your watch (your claim will need to be approved). That’s a pretty tough pill to swallow, and it’s something that you’ll need to know before buying this watch.
