Huawei’s tri-fold smartphone is in high demand, it seems, as sales estimates have risen by 100%. This information comes from a well-known analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo. The device in question is the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, by the way.
Sales estimates for Huawei’s tri-fold smartphone have risen by 100%
The company was expected to ship 500,000 units of the device. Well, now, the estimates have been revised to 1 million units for this year. Do note that the phone is China-exclusive, so we’re talking about China alone.
This phone managed to attract a lot of attention from all over the world despite the fact it launched in China only. There is hope it will arrive to more markets, though, as Huawei started teasing it via global social media channels.
This is also the world’s first tri-fold smartphone, by the way. It is available in China from CNY19,999 ($2,830). Which is, needless to say, a very high price tag for a smartphone. Still, tons of people seem to be interested.
It’s not even available just yet
It is also worth noting that it’s not even available to buy in China yet. It will go on sale tomorrow, September 20, though reservations have been available since the phone launched.
Both Xiaomi and HONOR seem to be working on their own tri-fold smartphones. So it’s only a matter of time until we see some competition for Huawei. It’s also worth noting that Huawei doesn’t have access to Google services, at least not officially, so that gives its competitors the edge globally.
This smartphone has a 10.2-inch 3K AMOLED display which can fold to two smaller form factors. Best of all, it’s only 12.8mm thick when fully folded, so it’s almost as thin as the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The device also has a very compelling camera setup, truly fast charging, and much more.
