Apple’s track record suggests that the launch of the next-gen iPhone lineup is just a few weeks away. The company hasn’t given an official date for the iPhone 16 series reveal yet, but there’s a lot of hype surrounding it. However, too much hype around something can backfire, especially when you’re eagerly awaiting news about it. That just happened with a fake invitation for an alleged iPhone 16 event that many believed.

Recently, tipster Majin Bu shared on X an alleged leaked invitation to the iPhone 16 series launch event. The invitation looked realistic and cleverly included elements related to some expected iPhone 16 changes. For example, the classic “bitten apple” logo has a finish that matches the “Desert Titanium” colorway that the iPhone 16 Pro would debut.

A bored user created the fake iPhone 16 event invitation

The “Ready. Set. Capture” slogan also seemed to be in line with leaks about a new camera shutter button. However, in the end, it was all a big prank. X/Twitter user @lorevfx confirmed that they were the creator of the poster, claiming to have made it in around 10 minutes using Figma, while the texture and color of the bitten apple logo were generated by AI.

If you’re wondering why someone would do something like that, the user says that they were simply bored. They also shared a time-lapse of the creation process of the fake iPhone 16 invitation to confirm their words.

Although the invitation was made in a short time, it looked pretty convincing, so it’s no surprise that the user managed to fool Majin Buu. However, the latter probably should have tried to confirm the authenticity of the invitation with more sources before posting it.

Anyway, industry insiders suggest that the iPhone 16 event will take place on September 10th. This is still pure speculation, but it’s the most “credible” information out there at the moment. Apple announced the iPhone 15 series on September 12, 2023, so the speculated date seems to be on track.
