One Pixel 9 model doesn’t include a vapor chamber cooler

It seems like one Google Pixel 9 model does not include a vapor chamber cooler. This was spotted by Wccftech, who noticed that Google’s Vice President of Product Management of Pixel devices and accessories said so.

The non-Pro Google Pixel 9 does not include vapor chamber cooling, it seems

His name is Brian Rakowski, and he told the audience on stage (28:34 mark) that the company is introducing a new vapor chamber to the “Pixel 9 Pro”. You’ll notice that he specifically used the ‘Pro’ moniker here.

Three out of four Pixel 9 smartphones are ‘Pro’ phones, the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The one that is left is the Pixel 9, the vanilla model. That is the most affordable phone in the series.

Based on what Brian Rakowski said, the vanilla model does not have vapor chamber cooling. If we had to guess, we’d say that it has some sort of graphite sheet or something, to keep the heat at bay.

Considering our experience with past Tensor chips, having more advanced cooling is a great idea

Needless to say, having a vapor chamber cooler is a way better solution. Considering that Google’s Tensor chips can get quite toasty, at least the ones before the Tensor G4, having more advanced cooling is a great idea.

We do expect this difference to cause the Pixel 9 to run a bit hoter than its siblings. That’s one non-obvious tradeoff of not having a ‘Pro’ model, it would seem. It’s also another reason to splash out the extra $200 and go for the Pixel 9 Pro instead.

The Pixel 9 Pro does have an extra camera on the back, faster wireless charging, a sharper display, more RAM. Well, it apparently has better cooling too. That could be enough to tip the users over and push them towards the Pixel 9 Pro. That variant has seemingly been the most popular thus far… with early adopters.
