The OnePlus 13 is on its way. The company’s new flagship smartphone will become official sooner than expected, based on everything we’ve seen thus far. It will succeed the OnePlus 12. We did see quite a few leaks regarding the OnePlus 13 thus far, and we’ll combine them to show you what you can expect from this form. The closer we get to the launch, the more details we’ll have.
The OnePlus 13 will have some fierce competition in the market when it launches. Quite a few phones aim to utilize Qualcomm’s new flagship chip, just like OnePlus. The vast majority of them come from China, so OnePlus will have direct competition in both domestic and international markets. With that being said, let’s get down to it, shall we?
This article will be regularly updated with new information on the OnePlus 13 (this is a preview article) — both official teasers and credible leaks, rumors, and insider claims — as it becomes available in the run-up to the release of the upcoming Android smartphone. This is the original posting of the article.
When will the OnePlus 13 be released?
The OnePlus 13 will launch in October, around two months earlier than initially expected. The OnePlus 12 was originally announced back on December 5, even though its global variant followed in January. Well, towards the end of January. OnePlus will likely split the launch this time around, so we’re not really sure when will the global model arrive. It could launch in November, though, a month after the OnePlus 13, as the global variant of the OnePlus 12 launched a month after the Chinese model. At this point we don’t have the exact launch date, but that information will likely surface soon too.
What models are coming?
OnePlus will once again launch a single flagship. We won’t be seeing regular and ‘Plus’ models, or anything of the sort. The company has been doing that in the past, but not in the last couple of years. We will be getting a single OnePlus 13 unit though in different RAM and storage options, which will differ between China and global models. The most powerful variant is said to include 24GB of RAM, just like its predecessor. There’s a good chance that we won’t see that variant in global markets, though. The OnePlus 12 with 24GB of RAM was limited to China, and that will end up being the case with the OnePlus 13, almost certainly. The most powerful variant that will be available globally will likely offer 16GB of RAM.
How much will the OnePlus 13 cost?
The exact OnePlus 13 price tag did not leak just yet. One rumor did indicate that the phone will cost between $799 and $899, though that’s an easy guess. Why? Well, because the OnePlus 12’s base model was priced at $799 in the States. It’s very unlikely that OnePlus will raise the price tag more than $100. If we had to guess, we’d say that it will either keep the same price tag, or get a $50 price bump to $849 in the US. It will be considerably more expensive in Europe, though, as that was the case with the OnePlus 12 too. We’re waiting for more information on this, but chances are we’ll get a price bump. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 aka Snapdragon 8 Elite will be more expensive, which is one of the reasons OnePlus could bump up the price.
What will the OnePlus 13 look like?
The OnePlus 13 is tipped to look considerably different than the OnePlus 12. A trusted source did not really show us the full design of the phone thus far, but bits and pieces did surface. Let’s start with the front side of the phone. BOE and OnePlus announced their collaboration once again. The OnePlus 13 will feature the BOE X2 display, and BOE possibly showed us the front side of the OnePlus 13. The image is shown below this paragraph, and it’s not particularly revealing. There is a display camera hole placed up top, and this is a micro quad-curved display, which means it will feel like a flat display, but have slightly curved edges. The bezels seem to be very thin, as expected.
Following that, a trusted source did show us the phone itself, but covered by a confidentiality case, and that was a sketch more than a render/real-life image. So it’s not particularly revealing, unfortunately. You can check it out below this paragraph. The cameras will be located on the same side as on the OnePlus 12, it seems. Three cameras will once again be included, though the camera island could look different. It could be larger and horizontally aligned, at least if this confidentiality case is an indicator of anything. You can clearly see the alert slider on the left side of the phone, and the physical buttons on the right.
A couple more third-party designs also surfaced, but nothing concrete. So we’ll have to wait for CAD-based renders or something of the sort to be sure of the phone’s design, if something else doesn’t come before that. We’re not that far away from the phone’s launch, though, so… it’s a bit weird we still didn’t see a proper leak of its design. Either way, stay tuned.
What specs will the OnePlus 13 have?
In regards to the phone’s specs, well, a lot of information did pop up. The OnePlus 13 appeared on Geekbench with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 aka Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. We’re still not sure what name will OnePlus use, but it seems like the latter is a clear possibility. That model also included 16GB of RAM, and was running Android 15. There is a chance that a 12GB RAM model of the phone will also be on offer, while a 24GB RAM modei will likely stay exclusive to China. We’ll have to wait and see, though. OnePlus will likely use LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage in all models.
OnePlus will utilize the BOE X2 display on the OnePlus 13. That display will likely be 6.78 inches in size, though it will be marketed as a 6.8-inch panel. It is a quad micro-curved micro OLED display with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The phone is said to include a 6,000mAh battery. That’s quite a boost compared to a 5,400mAh battery inside the OnePlus 12, which was rather large in its own right. The device will also support 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. 10W reverse wireless charging is also expected.
What about the cameras? A 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 camera is expected, the same sensor as in the OnePlus 12. We’re looking at an f/1.6 aperture lens here. The second camera will be a 50-megapixel ultrawide unit (Sony’s IMX882 sensor), while the third one will be a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (Sony’s IMX882 sensor). 3x optical zoom is tipped for that snapper, by the way. So both the ultrawide and periscope telephoto cameras will see upgrades. The phone will include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner too, and a “super-large X-axis motor” for haptic feedback. The device will also offer an IP68/IP69 rating for water and dust resistance. That will be an improvement over the IP65 certification the OnePlus 12 brought.
Should you wait to buy the OnePlus 13?
The question is, should you wait to buy the OnePlus 13 at this point? Well, considering that we’re so close to its launch, you should at least wait to see what exactly will the phone offer. Getting the OnePlus 12 now doesn’t make all that much sense. It will probably see an even more aggressive sale after the OnePlus 13 arrives, so waiting is the best option regardless, even if you still end up getting the OnePlus 12. Based on what we’ve seen thus far, the OnePlus 13 will not be a monumental update, but… we still don’t have the entire picture, of course.
