Samsung has released a new update for the Bixby app on Galaxy smartphones and tablets. It brings support for child accounts to the digital voice assistant. The update also contains bug fixes and functional stability improvements. A separate update for the Bixby Wakeup app improves the reliability of the assistant.
The latest update for the Bixby app is rolling out with version 3.3.03.2. Samsung released the new version a couple of days back and it’s now showing up for more Galaxy users around the world. As usual, the update can be downloaded from the Galaxy Store on compatible Samsung smartphones and tablets (link below). It is a 55.67MB download with support for child accounts being the most notable new addition.
Initially available for users in South Korea and the US, the new feature allows parents to create a separate Bixby account for their children. A child account will be created within the parent’s Samsung account. Kids will then be able to use the Bixby voice assistant on the phone. When using a child account, it will likely filter out content not suitable for them. Samsung says this feature will be available in more regions in the coming months.
This update for the Bixby app comes in tandem with an update for Bixby Wakeup, a system app that serves as the wakeup trigger for the voice assistant. Samsung is rolling out version 2.2.01.100 for the latter (via). It probably irons out some bugs or anomalies to enhance your Bixby experience. Since it’s a system app, you won’t find it in your app drawer. But you can download the new update from the Galaxy Store (link below).
Samsung improves its Bixby voice assistant with a new update
Bixby is Samsung’s version of Google Assistant or Apple Siri. It isn’t as popular as the latter two but can do some tasks better than them on Galaxy devices. The Korean firm regularly adds new capabilities to the digital voice assistant. Last month, it added support for custom wake-up phrases and seamless continuity during conversations. Samsung also enabled on-device processing of simple tasks such as setting a timer or turning on the flashlight.
This came after Samsung added English support for Bixby Text Call, a feature that transcribes audio calls in real-time, like Google’s call screening. Now, the company is pushing another update to the Bixby and Bixby Wakeup apps with more improvements in tow. If you’re using a Galaxy smartphone or tablet, you can click the buttons below to download the updates from the Galaxy Store.
