The ASUS ROG Ally is back down to its $400 price point, making this one of the best options for getting into handheld PC gaming. This deal is for the Ryzen Z1 model that normally retails for $600. So you’re saving $200 altogether. Best Buy is also offering a deal on the more powerful Ryzen Z1 Extreme model. This normally goes for $700 and it’s down to $600 right now.
When it comes to affordability, the Ryzen Z1 model rivals the least expensive option of the Steam Deck and opens up more gaming capabilities. Since it runs on Windows 11, you won’t be limited to just Steam games. Now technically the Steam Deck can run games from other game clients. But not without either installing Windows on it or messing with some stuff in the Steam Deck’s desktop mode to get those games to work. The ROG Ally is already on Windows so it will play whatever you want from whatever game client you choose. Right out of the box no less.
It has a pretty good amount of space at 512GB. But that might not be enough depending on how many games you plan to install. 512GB can fill up quickly with the size of some of today’s games. So we’d suggest looking into a microSD card for some extra storage. As you’ll be able to use one with this device to store and play games. The ROG Ally also comes with a decently sized 7-inch 120Hz display. Games look great on this screen and the 120Hz refresh rate is absolutely stunning for games on a handheld. It really makes the gaming experience a lot more fun.
If ever you decide you want to play games on the big screen, you can also hook the Ally up to a compact HDMI dock. If you want a nice handheld gaming device, this is a great place to start.
