Twitter Blue arrives on Android, costs $11 a month

Twitter Blue is now available on Android. The subscription service comes to Android devices over a month after it launched on iOS and the web. It costs the same $11 per month on Android as on iOS. Blue is available at $8 a month through the Twitter web.

Twitter launched the revamped Twitter Blue in the first half of December last year. It was technically a relaunch since the service originally debuted in November. But it had loopholes that led to chaos on the platform, forcing the company to suspend the service after just a couple of days. A month after that chaotic initial launch, Blue finally arrived on iOS and the Twitter web last month. Users could subscribe to the service through either platform, though the prices varied. The added price on iOS was because of Apple’s in-app purchase fee.

All this while, a Twitter Blue subscription was not available on the Android app. To use the service on Android devices, users had to first buy it through the web or an iPhone. The company has finally added subscription support on Android. And unsurprisingly, the pricing remains the same as that on iOS. That’s because Google also charges a similar in-app purchase fee. Meanwhile, Twitter yesterday launched an annual plan for Blue on the web. Priced at $84 per year (billed annually), it effectively brings the monthly fee to just $7.

Despite the expansion to Android, Twitter Blue still isn’t available globally. The service is currently limited to just six countries: the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. You can check the pricing structure for each of these markets here. It’s unclear whether the company plans to bring Blue to more countries anytime soon. We will let you know as soon as we have more information.

Twitter Blue now gives your the verification checkmark

Twitter Blue existed long before Elon Musk purchased the social network. It unlocked some exclusive features such as a customizable navigation bar, custom app icons, support for longer videos, and more. But Musk fundamentally changed the service after acquiring Twitter in late October last year. The biggest Blue perk today is the verification checkmark (blue tick), something that was previously only available after meeting several criteria established by the company. But you can now pay Twitter $8 every month for the coveted tickmark next to your username. Read our Twitter Blue explainer to know more about the service.
